About the role

At Rhoda AI, we’re building the next generation of generalist intelligent robots. We own the full robotics stack from high-performance hardware and robot systems to the infrastructure and state-of-the-art foundation world models that control our robots. Our robots are designed to be generalists capable of operating in complex, real-world environments and handling long-tail edge cases, made possible by our cutting edge research and end-to-end system design. We've raised over $450M and are investing aggressively in model research, infrastructure, hardware development, and manufacturing scale-up to make generalist robotics a reality.

As the Hand Team's lead engineer, you will own the mechatronic architecture of the entire hand system. This is the senior technical role on the team: you set the architecture, make the cross-subsystem tradeoffs, and lead three specialist engineers to ship the system.

What You'll Do

  • Own the mechatronic architecture of the hand system
  • Define and safeguard the hand's kinematic architecture across the program
  • Lead mechanical design of wearable and teleoperation hardware, including operator ergonomics
  • Set subsystem requirements and drive integration across actuation, structures, and electronics
  • Drive prototyping, test, and design iteration across the hand program
  • Technically mentor the actuator, structures, and electrical engineers on the team

What You Bring

  • Hands-on experience designing humanoid or dexterous robotic hands with multi-DoF mechanisms
  • Demonstrated mechanical design experience with teleoperation exoskeletons or comparable wearable mechanisms
  • Experience designing human-body attachment and ergonomic interfaces for wearable devices
  • Systems-level fluency across all hand subsystems — structures, actuation, and electronics — with the judgment to make cross-domain tradeoffs

Nice to Have

  • Experience taking robotic or consumer hardware from prototype through production
  • Familiarity with haptics, motion capture, or wearable data-capture systems
  • Prior technical leadership or mentorship of a small hardware team
